The break rules ensure that break times will be automatically calculated when you create a shift, so you don't have to set them manually!

1. Click on Time and attendance > Breaks

2. Click on Create a break or Edit to make a change to an existing break

3. Then enter the relevant information on the right side of your screen

  • The break name should be as precise as possible so as not to be confused with that of another break

  • The break duration must be entered in minutes

  • The department for which you want the pause to be active.

Choose the type of Automatic assignment:

  • You can choose not to automatically assign the break to each shift. Employees will not have a break by default on the platform, but it can easily be added when creating a shift.

  • Alternatively, you can set a minimum threshold duration in minutes.

  • Finally, you can set a scheduled start break time for your employees.

Finish filling in the information:

  • Choose if the break is paid or not, it will be accounted for in the payslips

  • Decide whether you want to prevent punching for employees at break time.

  • Click on Submit

4. Create a shift

If, according to your break rule, 8-hour shifts contain one one-hour break and two 15-minute breaks, these breaks will be automatically displayed when you create an 8-hour shift in the Schedule. Here is an example below :

5. Change breaks in the schedule

Even though the break rules are automatically displayed, you can change them if you wish.

  • Click on the text field Break Duration if you want to change it

  • Click on Break name if you want to edit it

  • Check or uncheck the Paid break option depending on your internal and union rules

  • Click on the trash can icon if you want to delete a pause

  • Click on Add break to generate an additional break

  • If you change the duration of the shift, click Recalculate Breaks to have them automatically adjusted to a different break rule :

Our tip: To recalculate the breaks when you change the duration of a shift, you can also click on the yellow message indicating Click here to re-calculate breaks, start or end time has been changed.
